Tips to Prevent Acne

Acne is something that everyone has to deal with at some level in their lives.  Some people get it worse than others, and there's nothing that can really change that.  Most people get acne the worst in their teenage years, but some people struggle with it even into adulthood.  While acne cannot be cured, there are some things that can be done to help prevent widespread cases.  This page has a few tips to prevent acne as much as it can be prevented.

In order to prevent acne from occurring, you can't be touching your face all the time.  I know that we all touch our faces often, usually without even thinking about it, but the less you can do this the better.  The reason you should avoid touching your face is because everything your hands touched before then gets on your face.  Any germs and oils transfer from the hands to your face and can lead to the formation of acne.  We all touch our faces with our hands, so it is important to wash your hands as often as you can to keep both your hands and your face clean.

Washing your hands isn't the only thing you should be doing.  Washing your face is also a very important part of preventing acne and maintaining healthy skin.  Washing your face twice a day helps break up all the oil and grease buildups on the skin.  Some warm water, soap and a wash cloth will do the trick.  There is no need to wash your face more than twice a day since too much washing can strip away the good oils that the skin needs to stay healthy.  Doing so can really dry out the skin, and no one wants that.  Keeping your face clean will help to prevent oil buildup and the formation of acne.

Another way to prevent acne is to sweat.  You might think that sweating would just make it worse, but it's actually good for the skin because the sweat clears out the pores of oil, dirt and dead skin cells.  So sweating is good, and exercising is good.  Go out and exercise to work up a sweat and you will be helping your body and your skin.  Being lazy means you will be fat and have bad skin, so get out there and start doing something.

While sweating is a great way to clear out the pores, you can just get all sweaty and stay like that.  After a workout or anything that gets you all sweaty, make sure you take a shower.  This should be done soon after working out.  When the sweat dries on the skin, it leaves a salty residue which is bad for the skin.  This can block the pores and allow oil and dirt to build up.  Washing the skin after working out makes sure the skin is clean and moist and that the pores are clear as well.  Who wants to sit around being all sweaty and gross after a workout anyway?  Showering is good for the skin and it makes you feel better and clean.  This is especially important if you are going out somewhere.  No one should work out and then go out in public without taking a shower.  That's just plain nasty, people.

The only real way to prevent acne is by keeping the skin clean, especially on the face.  For the most part, though, acne is inevitable.  Some people are lucky and don't get it much while others seems to always have it.  It's hard to say why some people have it worse than others.  For those that have really bad acne, there are ways of treating it.  Some people may be prescribed antibiotics in order to get rid of infections and bacteria in the body causing such severe acne.  For women, birth control pills can help by putting them on a normal cycle so the body produces normal amounts of skin oil known as sebum.  Sebum is what clogs the pores and leads to acne.  Some birth control pills have been known to prevent acne, but there is nothing to guarantee that it will work on every woman.

Another cause of acne is stress.  People that are highly stressed or engage is stressful behaviors will likely have more acne breakouts.  As we know, sweat is good for the pores until is has time to dry.  Some people sweat when they are stressed, so this can lead to acne breakouts as well.  Eating bad and not exercising can lead to more acne.  There are some foods that contribute to the formation of acne, like greasy potato chips and chocolate.  They may be delicious, but they can lead to a pimply face.

Severe acne must be dealt with using more extreme measures.  These treatments include microdermabrasion and laser therapy.  Sometimes severe acne can cause scarring, so these treatments help get rid of the scars.  Lasers are used to focus high intensity beams of light on the skin that will cause the sebaceous glands to go dormant.  Then they don't produce any more sebum.

Acne sucks and we all have to deal with it.  The problem is that we all have to deal with it and find ways to minimize it as much as possible.  Acne is a given in life and you can only avoid it if you are lucky.  Some people manage to go through most of their life without having any major acne.  Others will have it all over their face, making the younger years of their life harder to deal with.  There is always at least one kid in school that has the worst acne of anyone and they have to deal with it for years.  By following the tips in this article, then can do everything they can to limit the amount of acne they get.  At least acne goes away for a majority of people when they get older.  Then the awkwardness of the teenage years can face a little bit.  But some of us just stay weird forever.
